Communication Skills
Communication
in today’s modern world runs my life. From the moment I awake, to the second I
fall asleep I am communicating in some form or another. In order to be an
effective communicator there are a few skills that I have had to learn along
the way.
Since
the birth of my son, I have had to learn ways to communicate nonverbally. This
means allowing my son to know something is wrong without saying a word. For instance,
my signature stare lets my almost two year old son, Noah, understand that he
should quickly rethink his choice of action and make a new choice. This type of
communication works even better with people who have been communicating for
years. My son does not fully understand the cues his body tells me, but other
peers and coworkers of mine, do. When I am having a verbal conversation with
someone, my body begins a second conversation with nonverbal communication. I
look at the way a person moves their eyes, or perhaps uses their hands to
communication. Someone’s body language can tell me things that they themselves,
may not consciously want me to know. When having a conversation online it can
be difficult to trust someone because you lack the nonverbal part of the
communication.
Through
meeting new people, I have learned that I should not assume things about them. Not
everyone thinks in the same ways that I do. Everyone is brought up differently
and taught different things. It is because of their unique qualities, that I
should assume differences, before assuming similarities. There are many
characteristics that may change the way a person thinks. I often find that
gender, age, education level and cultural background, changes a person’s
values, beliefs and thought process. I take into consideration all of these
factors when I am talking to someone. Any of these characteristics can affect
the outcome of our conversation and can alter what we are talking about.
To
delve a little deeper in one’s cultural background, one needs to know their
cultural context. Whether a person is from a high-context or low-context
culture will make a difference in your conversation together. “In high-context
cultures, communication relies less on the explicit content of a message than on
the context of the message” (Bovée, 2010) . For instance, Japan
is a high context culture. Because children are raised knowing that different tones
in one’s voice has different meaning, they do not have to rely fully on verbal
communication to convey their message. Whereas “In low-context cultures, communication
relies more on message content than on message context” (Bovée, 2010) . The United States
is a low-context culture. People must rely on exact directions to understand a
message’s full context. Children are usually taught step by step in order to
understand how to do something, and because of this, they rely on instruction
in conversation as well.
There
are of course many other skills that need to be used when communicating with
others, however these are the three that I use and improve upon the most. Many
people have strengths within their communication skills, and by communicating
with vast amounts of people, one is able to draw on others abilities to improve
upon their own.

My Story
Fitness has always been a part of my life. I began playing basketball in 3rd grade competitively and it was all up from there. I loved sports growing up. In 7th grade I added on Volleyball and track to my athletic schedule. I continued to play these sports through high school at the varsity level as well. I loved playing sports and being fit. On the outside I looked like a regular athletic teenage girl.
However growing up I struggled with my weight. I never felt that I was good enough. I tried to hide my stomach, especially around boys. I never wanted to go swimming for fear of looking like a blimp in a bathing suit. I hated my body. I hated it so much, that I refused to look at myself in the mirror for weeks at a time. This continued throughout my life. Even the day I met my now husband, Sean. Although he has told me I am beautiful, and would do so a million times, I fought with the idea of it. The self hate even affected my pregnancy, in that I only have one picture of my belly while I was pregnant, because I hate pictures that show my mid section. Such a wonderful time in a mother's life was plagued by my hate for myself and what I saw in the mirror each day. This Self hatred continued each day until my son was 6 month old. I looked in the mirror and realized, I didn't have to live like that forever. I realized I could change my body, and be who I have always wanted to be. That was the day I ordered Insanity. I had seen the ads on television, and knew I was in for the hardest workouts of my life. I struggled the first two times I attempted Insanity, giving up midway through the round both times. However over the course of a year I lost 40lbs. I changed my diet. No longer drinking soda, or eating junk. I still eat some candy here or there, but everything is modified. I try to work out once a day, whether it is Insanity or my own workout routines. Through Beachbody I was able to find myself, and I continue this journey each and every day. I am now a coach to help others who need to find themselves. To gain the confidence that they deserve, and see the smiles on their faces when they look in the mirror. The smile that they have always deserved to have. I wouldn't change my journey. Although it was a life of heartache, I know that it helped me to truly love myself, and I can now set a better example for my son. If you would like to follow my journey, or tell me about yours, please find me on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dani-Bryan-Fitness/621233937905209?ref=tn_tnmn
Although I held it together on the outside, on the inside I was struggling. When I was a young girl, someone very close to me told me I was fat. The words left me shattered. I had no idea that I was considered overweight. I had grown up with a very thin older sister and younger brother. I had always looked different, but the words, "fat and overweight" had never crossed my mind. Below are Pictures of me at the exact age and weight that I was told this. Looking back I now know that I was fine. Just a little girl who didn't understand the cruelty behind people's words.

I am now an Independent Beach Body coach. You know the programs, P90X, Insanity, Body Beast??? Well that's who I'm with. We sell all sorts of amazing things, but that's not why I am writing today. I am beginning my very first challenge group. Want to know more, well here it is.
I am now an Independent Beach Body coach. You know the programs, P90X, Insanity, Body Beast??? Well that's who I'm with. We sell all sorts of amazing things, but that's not why I am writing today. I am beginning my very first challenge group. Want to know more, well here it is.
Interested in a
challenge group?
A challenge group is a group of people, similar to a support
group, whom work together to achieve their fitness goals. Some may be
completing the same workout program, or some may be doing different ones. The
challenge packs can be found at http://beachbodycoach.com/DanielleB91.
What do you get?
Each challenge pack includes the fitness program of your
choice, and a month’s supply of Shakeology in the flavor of your choosing. The
pack also includes your free profile to team beach body as well as free
coaching from me. You have to log into your team beach body profile and make me
your coach. My number ID is 226432.
How it all works.
The Group challenge will last 30 days. Each day you will
have a mini homework assignment to do. It helps with your motivation, and
accountability. It could be as simple as telling me what you had for breakfast,
or take a pic of yourself after your workout. Every day is something different.
The group is there to help you through whatever you need help with, whether it
be in your fitness journey or in everyday life. We are all here for one
another, to help everyone achieve their goals.
You may wonder why
you have to drink Shakeology.
Everyone will be drinking it to help with their weight loss;
however, it will help with so much more. Shakeology is much more than a weight
loss or meal replacement shake. It tastes delicious, helps with cravings,
improves your immune system, improves diabetes, health risks of any kind, (I
swear I’m not making this stuff up). Shakeology is a life style change. It
takes roughly 2 weeks to start seeing and feeling the changes, but you will be
so happy you discovered this shake. You can research more about it here; http://myshakeology.com/DanielleB91.
As always, if there are any questions, feel free to ask me. My
